FIU Occupational Therapy MS - Online FAQ

How much does the program cost?
Fees for this program are $850 per course. This applies to Florida residents, non-Florida residents, and international students.

Does the program require a thesis?
No. Students in this program will do a master's project. It is anticipated that this project will be related to the student's work experience or work situation.

Do I need to take a certain number of credits each semester?
No. However, it is recommended (not required) that students take 2 courses (6 credits) each semester.

Can I take a semester off?
Yes. You can take a semester off if you need to. However, you must not take more than 1 year off in order to retain your student status.

Is this degree comparable to the traditional format degree that is offered?
Yes, it is basically the same curriculum. The only revision is that instead of a research thesis you will be doing a project.  This project is supervised by one faculty member, and should be related to your area of expertise and your practice area.  Many students choose to do some type of program development project.

How will I access my courses?
All courses are delivered online via WebCT ( www.webct.com ). Once you are registered for a course, you will obtain the link to access your course area. These are closed course sites and can only be accessed by students enrolled in the courses.

Do courses require that I be online at a particular time of day?
Generally not, although some professors may institute the use of a chat room during the semester. For the most part, all courses are asynchronous (you access them and do the work at any time of day).

Is there any interaction between the students?
Yes. All courses require participation in discussion groups (usually via electronic bulletin boards). Also, many classes require some type of group project, so you will work (electronically) with other students in the class.
